Disarming Violence
On a Path Toward Peace: Part One

Horrors of our daily news, from Putin's threat to use nuclear weapons to bloody massacres in our classrooms, compel us to disarm violence in our communities, our economy, and internationally. It's time to join with national and global peace movements to change the system we live in from a culture of war to a culture of peace.

This issue of Justice Rising: Grassroots Solutions to Corporate Power looks at the violence of war, the violence in our streets, and the rise of violence in politics, so clearly demonstrated by the January 6 riot at the US Capitol. It details the threat to climate from the US military carbon bootprint, and the ways that war industries sell to the public and government.

But it also illuminates pathways toward peace, work being carried out around the world to bring people together in "neighbor to neighbor" dialogue and to develop non-violent concepts of security. For those of us in the US, there are suggested actions focusing on moving our tax dollars from so-called defense spending to programs that meet the needs of people and planet.

The Alliance for Democracy calls for a moral budget, not a war budget.
